Declaration
1a. I commit to raising at least the minimum sponsorship of £1,900 for the Cape Town Marathon 2026. 1b. £1,200 of my minimum fundraising target is due to Spinal Research by 01 February 2026, with the remainder received within four weeks of the event date. Failure to meet the remaining fundraising target may affect eligibility for future charity places with Spinal Research. 1c. If I do not reach the first fundraising target of £1,200 by 01 February 2026, Spinal Research has the right to revoke your place. If you have any concerns regarding reaching your fundraising target, please do contact the Events Team, we are here to help and support you. 2a. You acknowledge that Spinal Research may incur costs as a result of your joining (e.g., cost of charity entry, producing and sending/technical kit/t-shirt) this challenge. The objective is to raise as much sponsorship as possible. 2b. If I do not take part in the event, any sponsorship money raised will be treated as a donation. 2b1. If any sponsors wish to request a refund, they must contact Spinal Research directly and meet specific criteria to be eligible for reimbursement. 2c. I understand that my place is non-transferable and cannot be deferred due to Spinal Research not being guaranteed places on the Cape Town Marathon 2027. If I do not take part in the event, any sponsorship money raised will be treated as donations unless my sponsors contact Spinal Research directly for a refund. 2d. I understand that my registration fee is non-refundable, and it cannot be rolled over to any other event. 3a. In the event that the Cape Town Marathon 2026 is not awarded World Marathon Major status, Spinal Research will open a one-time opportunity for participants to transfer their place, registration fee, and fundraising total to another Spinal Research event taking place within 12 months of the original event date. 3a1. I understand that the events available for transfer will be subject to availability and I am not guaranteed to be transferred onto high-demand events such as the London Marathon. 3a1a. At the time of transferring, Spinal Research will confirm which events have availability. 3a2. If I transfer to an event with a higher fundraising target or different participation requirements, I understand that I will be expected to meet the fundraising commitment and terms specific to that event. 3a2a. If the alternative event has a lower registration fee or fundraising target, the difference will not be refunded. 3a3. Participants will have 7 days from the date Spinal Research opens the transfer window to notify the Events Team if they wish to transfer. After this period, the one-time switch offer will close, and our general cancellation terms will apply. 3a3a. Registration fees and fundraising totals are non-transferable outside of this one-time switch. 4a. I will create a fundraising page, or fundraise offline, under my name only. I understand that I cannot share a fundraising page with other participants or use the same fundraising page for multiple fundraising events unless agreed with Spinal Research. 4b. I will pay my registration fee under my name only unless agreed with Spinal Research. 4c. I agree to raise all money using legal methods and complying with the fundraising advice given by Spinal Research. 5. I understand that Gift Aid is not included in my minimum sponsorship, but that money raised from Gift Aid is a valuable bonus for Spinal Research. 6. I confirm that, to the best of my knowledge, my general state of health and fitness is good and I take full responsibility for my training. I take part in this event at my own risk. 7. I confirm that I will be the minimum age required to take part in the event. For more information on specific ages for events please email events@spinal-research.org. 8. All funds raised for Spinal Research through the event will be made payable to Spinal Research. 9. I agree to Spinal Research storing the information that I have provided on their database. For more details on how we handle your personal data, please refer to our Privacy Policy at https://spinal-research.org/privacy-and-cookie-policy/ 10. I give Spinal Research permission to use any photographs/videos taken of me at this event on their website and via social media platforms, to raise awareness of the charity. I can opt out of this by contacting Spinal Research at events@spinal-research.org. 11. I agree to the terms and conditions set out by the event organiser for the event I am involved in. Please email events@spinal-research.org for official Cape Town Marathon terms and conditions. 12. I agree that Spinal Research may share my details with the event organiser. 13. I will contact Spinal Research immediately if I think I will not be able to participate in the event. 14. When Spinal Research establishes contact described as “urgent”, I will respond via email/telephone/in writing as quickly as possible.
